After 10 years in the abalone farming industry, I founded a tourism business focusing on guided farm tours & tasting of this rare, endangered species.
Despite my financial background and experience, tourism has allowed me to live out my passion for people, our local town (where I have lived for 35years) and nature.
Primary aquaculture is special labour intensive environment full of community success stories, innovation and unique experiences.

It was a great experience to learn something about Abalone and to see how thew grow up. We really enjoyed the tasting! We were sceptical how they would taste but it was great and not slimy or something like this.

We can highly recommend this tour. Our guide at Abagold was Melanie. She was very knowledgeable and had an answer to every single question we asked (and we asked a lot). Learned so much about Abalone and its sustainable farming. Very hands-on experience. The more insight you‘d like to get the more they let you see.

A unique and interesting experience to learn about Abalone, and the farming of Abalone. Abagold is a very impressive, all South African enterprise and a lesson in entrepreneurship!
