Wat je gaat doen
My hometown of Sucre is Bolivia's oldest city, it was founded by the Spanish Conquistadors in 1538. Sucre has more buildings dating back to the 16th Century than any other Bolivian city. Sucre is located in the heart of South America, here Catholicism, customs, traditions are still very similar to the colonial times, that is something astonishing and worth talking about, it can helps us having another perspective to the modern world. I will guide you in a walking tour within the city, this will take between 2 to 3 hours. The tour is mainly historical, and I will explain in a chronological order the history of Bolivian since the arrival of the Spanish, the alliances with the Incas, then the revolutionary period, the independence period and so on. We will also talk about the culture, the society, the idiosyncrasy, the social norms, customs and traditions. We will visit squares, government buildings, churches, universities (and other institutions), houses of former presidents, writers, diplomats, businessmen, and we will walk through nice streets. we will focus on the most unusual aspects of this city. We will also visit the market to see what are the traditional food we eat in Sucre and the ingredients we use for cooking. I can offer very good discount if you are a group, get in touch!
Passionate about Bolivian History, I studied History and Economic History at the London School of Economics and Political Science. I was a visiting lecturer in the Faculty of History in Sucre's public University. I've worked in the Bolivian Foreign Office in La Paz and in the Bolivian Embassy in London. I also worked in a British-Bolivian Magazine called Bolivian Express, guiding international students in research and internships in different parts of the country. I lived in Sucre for 12 years, Potosí for 6 years and La Paz for 2 years. I consider Sucre my hometown. I like to interact with people, and specially I enjoy meeting foreigners in Sucre because I am always with my local friends. I do not see myself as a typical tour guide but more a local who is available for interaction a happy to give you a deeper insight in Bolivia.
