- In the Maya language, Akumal means place of the turtle. That is because many sea turtles are full-time residents of Akumal Bay. That makes seeing turtles out in the bay very possible when you're with an experienced guide like me. I'll meet you near the beach and provide you with life jacket and snorkeling gear. I will then take you through an exclusive entrance onto the beach of Akumal Bay. At the beach, I'll give you instructions on how to use your equipment, where we'll be swimming, what marine life you can expect to see, how to be mindful and respectful of the marine life and environment, and most importantly, how to be safe in the water. Once we enter the water, we'll take a brief pause to make sure everyone is comfortable in the water and with their equipment. Then, I'll guide you around the circuit and show you all of the marine life that Akumal Bay has to offer. You can see sea turtles, stingrays, barracudas, reef squid, coral reef and many other tropical fish. After we've had fun in the water, we'll head back to shore and I'll take your equipment. If you need any help with the rest of your day, I'll be there to assist you. Other things to note You do not need to be a strong swimmer to participate in my tour but you should at least be comfortable in the water. - VAMOS A NADAR CON TORTUGAS !! iniciamos en el poblado de akumal para ir a la bahia de akumal, llegando a la bahia les enseñaré sus lockers, baños regaderas y les haré entrega de su equipo de snorkeling. Estando listos nos vamos al agua. Una de nuestras primeras vistas será la gran barrera de coral, esta es la segunda más grande del mundo. Antes de ir con las tortugas nadaremos hacia los parches de coral. Nadaremos alrededor de ellos donde veremos el coral cerebro, el coral estrella,cuernos de chivo y algunos más. Dentro de estos corales habitan más de 35 especies de peces tropicales y multicolores como: el pez loro, mariposa, pez trompeta, rubias, sargentos, cirujanos etc. Aveces en nuestro camino se nos encontramos a alguna tortuguita curiosa. Pero de no ser asi iremos a buscar mantarrayas latigo y si tenemos suerte veremos a la gran mantarraya águila ella es negra con pintas blancas y coma larga. Después nos vamos a los pastos marinos aquí es en donde estaremos con las tortugas, algunas llegan a medir más de 1 metro de largo. Generalmente están comiendo y suben a respirar cada 10-15 minutos y lo hacen muy cerca de nosotros pero no podemos tocarlas. Algunas llevan consigo un pez pegado a ella que va comiendo los retos que la tortuga va dejando.
